The family coach’s role and intervention framework

The family coach’s work at Petit Pont consists of observing the difficulties that a child, a parent or a responsible adult close to the child present in a context of separation, and proposing concrete ways of helping them, with several follow-up sessions, if necessary. For example, he/she can provide support to families who having difficulty with the announcement of separation, post-separation changes, or co-parenting.

Limitations of intervention: The family coach does not do psychotherapy

Respecting conditions set out above, the approach may involve different aspects:

  • Collecting information from child and parent
  • Observing the child at home
  • Interventions in the home and recommendations to the parent
  • Follow-up at home or at the office

Who can apply for coaching at Petit Pont?

One or both parents who:

  • Are in a situation of pre-separation, separation, or post-separation that affects the family
  • Are aware that there is a problem related to the adaptation of the child or the parent to the context of separation

The parent or parents requesting this service must respect the following conditions:

  • Act on a voluntary basis (make the request themselves)
  • Go to the coach's office to open the file and cover the costs
  • Obtain the consent of the other parent and the child over the age of 14, if need be
