The family coach’s role and intervention framework
The family coach’s work at Petit Pont consists of observing the difficulties that a child, a parent or a responsible adult close to the child present in a context of separation, and proposing concrete ways of helping them, with several follow-up sessions, if necessary. For example, he/she can provide support to families who having difficulty with the announcement of separation, post-separation changes, or co-parenting.
Limitations of intervention: The family coach does not do psychotherapy
Respecting conditions set out above, the approach may involve different aspects:
- Collecting information from child and parent
- Observing the child at home
- Interventions in the home and recommendations to the parent
- Follow-up at home or at the office
Who can apply for coaching at Petit Pont?
One or both parents who:
- Are in a situation of pre-separation, separation, or post-separation that affects the family
- Are aware that there is a problem related to the adaptation of the child or the parent to the context of separation
The parent or parents requesting this service must respect the following conditions:
- Act on a voluntary basis (make the request themselves)
- Go to the coach's office to open the file and cover the costs
- Obtain the consent of the other parent and the child over the age of 14, if need be
